meet spike
By the time Spike is eight years old, he has lived in seven foster homes in Chicago. He’s bullied, teased and called a ‘mutt’ because he looks different than the other kids. But Spike remains resilient and tough in this upbeat, contemporary ugly duckling story about difference.
When Spike sees the new young President speaking on TV, his ears perk up. He hears the President say, “I’m looking for a dog for my kids that is a mutt like me.” Then Spike tells himself, “A mutt? That's me—I'm the perfect one for the job.”
And just like that, he takes a bus to Washington to apply to be the President’s dog, and maybe—finally—be a part of a real family.
Spike faces many obstacles as he wanders around Washington. But he summons up all his grit, courage and experience to come up with some clever answers—that might just get him the job.
